While I was a student at UW-Oshkosh I took all types of studio classes. Photography, watercolor, oil painting, wood cut and drawing were my favorite 2D classes. Watercolor quickly became my first choice to use while creating my unique creatures.
The bright colors and emphasized body parts are trademarks to my monsters. Color choice comes from the mood I want to create. A blue figure usually has a sad issue, where the yellow and red ones are more happy. The green ones typically have a fungus or disease they can't remove. The shapes of the figures are shown to emphasize a body part. My "Nose Fungi" piece has a large swollen noses to push the attraction on just the nose. The portrait paintings with mind thought coming out of the skull are pieces allowing the viewer to get lost in the mess of all the thoughts they have. Those are my favorite because they remind me how everyone has so much bottled in their brain and how they and don't always share.
My inspiration comes from doodling or dreams. Once I was staring at the ceiling and I saw an odd shape. I drew it down and starting creating a figure. Ideas are every where and they need to be drawn onto paper!
Enjoy the painting and other photo projects I am working on.
Thank you-
