Then and Now
While looking at an old photo from 1993 I realized how much of my parents backyard changed. I was wearing a white tutu and a red wind jacket, while holding a bouquet of dandelions that most likely after sat in a red cup with water placed on the kitchen counter.
After looking at this photo and making the decision to recreate it, I found other snapshots my mother took that brought memories and showed the changes around the house I grew up in. Too learn more about the Wisconsin Rapids home please keep on scrolling.

The birdbath with the water pump is a high profile location in the front yard. My brother would play in the water, my dad and I like to watch the birds rinse off throughout the day, and my nephew likes to throw the big rocks into it. This water pump is from my mother’s farm home in Miladore, WI. During my lifetime it was never functional in Wisconsin Rapids, but when it came to us kids we thought we could bring out water. We would lift the handle up and down on repeat until Mom yelled, “Stop it!” from the kitchen window. I remember my dad having to put it back together if it fell out of line. Surprisingly we never broke it and it still stands strong today.
Ahh caught running around the house in my tutu and white hat. What really catches my eye with these two photos is the deck. My dad has completed many projects at home and these photos really show the different styles he can build.
Coloring time! My siblings and I spent many hours playing and eating at this small table. My mother has recently brought the table back out for my nephews to use. It is always fun watching your loved ones use what you once played with. Some toys just never go out of style.
Meet Rar, my second cousin, Sharon, gave me him in July 1993. I love this stuff animal so much. He is the toy I cry with, would get covered in flour while I helped Mom bake, and still the animal I snuggle with at nighttime. He brings me comfort. As you can see when I was young, I was very proud of him. Rar’s bright colors always remind me how vibrant the world is around us.
While growing up, my mother made homemade apple pies. My brothers, sister and I would help by pealing off the skins and cutting the apples with these small knives. I can still smell those tasty pies.
First day of school photos. Some years we sat on the backyard bench or stood in front of the house. I must point out my father has done the landscaping around the house and built all the porches. I’m so proud of all the improvements. The house is looking so sharp!
This photo is for a good laugh. Some poses are simply cuter under the age of five. Can you believe the tree behind me is the same? It has grown up so much.
Hope you have enjoyed seeing the changes of the 1990s to 2017. Hopefully more old and new photos to come!
